Norfolk Reading Project, a local charity established in 2015, is looking for new volunteers to support children and young people with reading in schools.
The Project recruits, trains, and funds DBS checks for volunteers who regularly listen to children read on a one-to-one basis in school. The service is completely free to both schools and volunteers.
Volunteers usually go into school for a half-day (around 2-3 hours), every week during term time. There are currently around 150 volunteers in over 50 schools. Training can also be provided for volunteers already in schools.
The demand for Reading Support Volunteers is set to grow right across the county as a result of the pandemic, with those children who were struggling left even further behind. Many of the Project's most experienced volunteers are in the vulnerable/shielding group and may be unable to provide their usual support to children in our most disadvantaged areas.
