I have been a keen supporter of a new swimming pool and 3G sports pitch in Fakenham and helped to secure £10m of government funding from the last government to make it happen. Labour threw the project into doubt, so I asked Fakenham residents to sign a petition to show the strength of support for the pool. More than 1,250 people signed, and I presented the petition to Parliament.
The Treasury have now responded and confirmed that they will now provide the funding for the swimming pool and 3G pitch after all. This is incredible news for Fakenham. I am so grateful to all constituents who answered my call to sign the petition. It just goes to show that, sometimes, people power can make a difference.
I will continue to work closely with Fakenham Town Council and North Norfolk District Councillors Christopher Cushing and Liz Vickers, who have worked so hard on this, as we now look to progress the delivery of these amenities as quickly as possible.
