I am delighted that the National Grid ESO has published its report on how Offshore Windfarms should be connected to the National Grid.
As we all knew, they have found that the current system of individual connections are more disruptive to people and to the environment and cost more in the long run for the developers. An integrated system can cut costs by up to 50% by 2050 and halve the number of connections needed. This is a great start but we can't wait until 2030 before developers can take advantage of this new approach. I will be meeting National Grid tomorrow to follow up on this report and push the case for earlier adoption for current windfarm proposals.
