The Chancellor has announced that, subject to market conditions, the UK will issue our first ever 'Sovereign Green Bonds' from next year.
This will be the first in a series of new issuances as we build out a "Green Curve" over the next few years, helping to fund projects which tackle climate change and create green jobs.
Jerome Mayhew, MP for Broadland, said:
As lead author for a One Nation policy document that argued for a Green Bond this summer, I am delighted by this announcement. Congratulations to my colleague Gareth Davies MP for his campaign work. This provides a route to channel investment into the big projects needed to get our economy on target to meet our Net Zero ambitions by 2050.
