I recently attended a pub round table at The Chequers Hainford, with representatives from the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) including landlords, brewers and owners from across the constituency, to discuss the challenges the industry is facing with rising employment costs and the reduction in business rates relief that all come into effect in April.
All businesses who attended the event have paused recruitment and cancelled planned investment. It is predicted by the BII that 80% of all Great British pubs will be unprofitable after April 2025 and we stand to lose many of our local pubs.
