Until recently, Broadland has been spared the worst of the effects of Covid-19. But our rate of infection has spiked substantially in the past fortnight, from around 50 cases per 100,000, to nearly 150. This mirrors a trend being seen in other rural areas across the country.
It shows that the relative safety we have enjoyed for most of this year may also have had the effect of making us a little complacent. More than ever right now, we need to be diligent about the simple precautions: sticking to the lockdown rules, washing our hands regularly and thoroughly, wearing face masks, and doing everything possible to protect ourselves and others. As things stand, there is a chance that Broadland will not have reduced infection rates sufficiently to come out of lockdown on 2nd December without increased restrictions. If we wish to protect jobs, businesses, and livelihoods, all of us must play our part in reducing the rate of infections here over the next couple of weeks.
