Norfolk Constabulary is to receive an addition £9m next year to recruit additional officers and keep communities safe.
This is part of a £636m increase nationwide in 2021-2022, announced today by Home Secretary Priti Patel, bringing the total spend on policing next year to £15.8bn. The total includes more than £400m to recruit 20,000 additional police officers by 2023 - delivering on a key Conservative manifesto pledge at last year's General Election.
The funding will also be used to bolster counter-terrorism policing, including money for armed policing and more officers. The Conservative government has been determined to support the police throughout the coronavirus pandemic, with officers working tirelessly to keep communities safe. The government has provided £30m to help forces step up coronavirus reinforcement, and has reimbursed all forces for all additional PPE purchased between March and July.

Norfolk Constabulary has already recruited 60 additional officers in line with the government's pledge to increase the size of the UK's police services by 20,000 officers. I am grateful for all that our outstanding local officers have done to keep communities in Broadland safe during the pandemic, and I am pleased that the government continues to support policing in this way.
