It is an increasingly clear characteristic of this Prime Minister and this Government that they are not just about talking about doing things; they get on and do them. Whether it is getting Brexit done despite the obstacles, delivering a vaccination strategy, or providing the economic support to protect jobs and maximise our storming economic recovery, the Prime Minister is a doer and makes things happen.
This Queen’s Speech not only delivers for the residents of Broadland, but local businesses too. With the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill 5G mobile coverage will be extended; tax breaks for employers based in the eight freeports to be set up in England later this year will be included in a National Insurance Contributions Bill and local SMEs will be able to benefit from the reformed procurement rules as the Government looks to buy British.
All of us want our children to be able to afford their own homes. Consequently, the Government are reforming planning, so it is more in the hands of locals, properly agreed in advance. Having said that, we still need to protect our precious green spaces, ensure locals have a say in where homes are built and regenerate disused shops or brownfield sites.”
This Queen’s Speech shows that the Government have not focused solely on infection prevention and vaccine roll-out—they have kept going with plans to build back better for the whole United Kingdom.
